The Silence of the Lambs, Jonathan Demme, USA, 1991
Original version in English with Spanish subtitles

Clarice Starling, a brilliant university graduate and specialist in psychotic behaviour who is training with the FBI, joins the hunt for Buffalo Bill, a serial killer who skins his female victims’ bodies. To try to learn more about the killer’s behaviour patterns, she is assigned to interview Hannibal Lecter, a super-intelligent former psychoanalyst and murderer now imprisoned at a maximum security facility. The two enter into a duel that will heighten in intensity as the investigation advances, and for which there will be a price to pay.

Without doubt one of the finest psycho thrillers from the 1990s and an icon of the genre. Hopkins’ masterful performance, the finely-woven plot and the powerful use of close-up shots are key ingredients in a macabre, hypnotic cocktail at once frightening and fascinating.

Not recommended for spectators under 18 years

Jacaranda (Brazilian popular music)

Jacaranda is the brainchild of four musicians in love with Brazilian popular music. In their work, they pay homage to Noel Rosa & Cartolà, great composers and forerunners of samba-canção, a style that is essential for understanding a genre that, in the 1960s, provided the Brazilian response to such popular Latin American sounds as tango and bolero. Jacaranda’s repertoire, with its echoes of traditional music, also includes several songs written by the band.
