10 pm  – FILM
Mommy(Canada, 2014), by Xavier Dolan
Original version in French with Spanish subtitles

Die, a determined widow and mother, decides to look after her teenaged son Steve, who has attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, on her own. Die’s neighbour, Kyla, who knows about the boy’s occasional violent outbursts, offers to help, and becomes the third element in a most unusual constellation.

Colour, music and uncompromising scenes combine to create a fresh, striking narrative about the experiences of this odious but attractive teenager. Dolan turns our expectations upside-down as one moment we are enthralled, the next appalled.

Not recommended for spectators under 16 years
